Tribute to Sulby rider

A former TT racer who died in an accident near the Ginger Hall pub last week has been described as ‘well-loved’ by his family.

Tony Cook, 75, died on Thursday evening after an accident on the Claddaghs Road involving his red Norton bike and a parked Peugeot car.

A passenger in his sidecar received head injuries during the incident.

After police named him this morning (Monday), his family have been describing his passion for motorbikes and racing.

In a statement, Mr Cook’s family say he was a well loved family man, who moved to the Isle of Man 22 years ago.

The retired motorbike engineer raced in the TT in the 1960s as a sidecar passenger and came fourth in the 1960 race.

His relatives say he was a conscientious and safe rider who trained new riders in his spare time.

The coroner of inquests has been informed.
